Checkerboard loaches (Botia dario) and star loaches (Botia almorhae) are both popular freshwater aquarium fish, but they have some key differences. Checkerboard loaches have a distinctive black and white checkerboard pattern on their bodies, while star loaches have a more uniform coloration with a series of dark spots along their sides resembling a star pattern. In terms of behavior, checkerboard loaches are known to be more aggressive and territorial compared to the more peaceful star loaches. Additionally, checkerboard loaches tend to be smaller in size compared to star loaches, which can grow larger and require more space in the aquarium. **
