A radio pager works by receiving radio signals from a paging transmitter. When someone wants to send a message to the pager, they use a telephone or computer to send a signal to the paging transmitter. The transmitter then sends out a radio signal with the message to the pager's specific frequency. The pager is programmed to listen for messages on that frequency and alerts the user when a message is received. **

To determine if the pager is defective, you can try troubleshooting steps such as replacing the batteries, checking for any physical damage, and ensuring that it is properly programmed and receiving signals. If the pager still does not work after these steps, it may be defective and in need of repair or replacement. It's also a good idea to consult the manufacturer's instructions or customer support for further assistance. **

Without more specific information or context, it is difficult to determine if the pager is malfunctioning. Common signs of a malfunctioning pager could include not receiving messages, displaying errors, or not functioning properly when buttons are pressed. It would be helpful to troubleshoot the pager by checking the battery, signal strength, and ensuring it is properly set up before determining if it is malfunctioning. **
